The Toronto Mahjong Club is a welcoming community for people who want to learn, practice, and play mahjong in a relaxed social setting. We offer beginner-friendly Learn to Play lessons and Open Play sessions for those who already know the basics.

We teach and support both American and Hong Kong mahjong.  Choose which version is right for you.

Everyone is welcome. Our club is designed for all levels; complete beginners, casual players, and experienced mahjong enthusiasts who are looking for friendly games.

Do I need to know how to play before attending?

If you are new to mahjong, we recommend starting with our Learn to Play lesson package. If you already understand the basic rules and flow of the game, you are welcome to attend an open play event.  When registering please select either Hong Kong or American and indicate your skill level; beginner, intermediate so that we can be sure to place you at the right table.

What do I need to bring?

We provide a mahjong table and tiles.  Bring yourself, a willingness to learn, and any personal items you may need for the evening. If playing American mahjong then you will need to bring your own National Mahjongg League card  with you (we have a few extra on hand if you do forget) ,if you have a favorite mahjong set feel free to bring it if you wish.

Advance registration is required so that we can plan table set up and tiles accordingly.

Absolutely. Many people attend on their own. We will do our best to help players find a table based on the game they select and their level of experience.

Sign up through the events page. Choose from Learn to Play for Beginners or Open Play for those who already know the basics and are looking for a friendly game.

What if an event is full?

If an event is full, please join our waitlist as we may add additional tables or feel free to register for the next available date. Adding your name early helps us with planning for future sessions.
